Kicking things off with a brash, brutal and rather brilliant take on Led Zeppelin's ‘Immigrant Song’, this Trent Reznor-crafted soundtrack to the American remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo may lead you to expect (and hope) more of the same - but such thoughts are quickly dispelled. What unfolds instead is nigh on three hours of fractured and disturbing industrial post–rock that while intriguing, will test the patience of most ordinary listeners.

In the wake of his success with the Social Network soundtrack, Reznor uses Stieg Larsson's dark tale to explore an overarching sense of musical paranoia - with just enough light and shade to keep you interested. Although expertly constructed and an undoubtedly perfect accompaniment to the film, it is doubtful that many will listen to this in anything more than shorter, more manageable chunks and, in doing so, sap some of its undoubted power. It is unlikely that many new fans will be won over by this daunting collection but its glitchy, fragile nature coupled with a brooding sense of dread will delight fans of soundtracks - and fill the void for fans waiting patiently for the next Nine Inch Nails album.
