The View - Cheeky For A Reason

Since the release of their much acclaimed debut album Hats Off To The Buskers, Dundee band The View seemed to have stopped trying to be the critics' 'next big thing' and actually sound like they are having a lot more fun. OK, maybe last year's uneven (yet enjoyable) Bread and Circuses and their latest Cheeky For A Reason may have the critics writing them off as yet another act who peaked too soon, but the truth is that the tunes still have the same snap, the same endearing punchiness of the debut without the burden of that 'trying too hard to be deep' heaviness that can drag the songs down.

Opener 'How Long' is excellent, while 'Bullet' is fierce and cocksure with Kyle Falconer's vocals never sounding so certain: "I may be cheeky for a reason but I won't lie / I'm just a bullet gone wrong." The rest of the album holds up pretty well; 'Bunker (Solid Ground)' is a bit flaccid, yet 'The Clock' and the adorably dancey 'Hole In The Head' more than make up for it. So hats off to The View - the critics may have abandoned them, but they don't care. They're just having the time of their lives.

About Olivia Schaff
I have been writing for The Music Fix for over two years and if anything I am more of a music junkie than ever before. I am not happy unless I’m waiting in line for a gig. Be it a rock band or a folk band, you will always find me at the barrier. My home is Manchester and wherever my favourite band are playing.
