Oren Ambarchi - Sagittarian Domain

Drone maestro Oren Ambarchi has been rather prolific for years, turning out a goodly number of high quality albums from his quite corner of Australia, in addition to his frequent collaborations with giants of the genre. But to keep it all interesting, the odd left turn is sometimes required, and that is exactly what we get with Sagittarian Domain; a single half hour piece, the walls of sound or blissfully calm waters commonly associated are nowhere to be seen here.

Building from a few sparse loops, Sagittarian Domain sees Oren craft a sublime, hypnotic study in complete aural relaxation. Rhythmical beats overlap whilst a burst of drums drives the piece forward as we veer into krautrock waters, calling up visions of the German pioneers at their experimental and psychedelic best. Slowly the monster grows until the listener is surrounded by sounds, a beautiful cacophony of noise. Up and down the ride goes, until at last it collapses into a fading star of wistful strings and decaying echo.

About Dominic Hemy
The team's resident oddball (he takes offence to the term "village idiot", favouring "geek"), Dominic has a healthy love of the weird and wonderful end of the musical spectrum - and an intense dislike of copycats. Dabbles in psychedelic and folk musics for relaxing times, but prefers it loud, strange, and preferably with an average song length in the twenties.
