Like a lot of the nu-prog crowd, it has taken The Pineapple Thief some time to distance themselves from the spectre of Porcupine Tree and find their own sound. But with new record All The Wars the band have instead walked straight into the now-vacated shoes of Oceansize; everything about the album is constructed exactly as the much-loved (and missed) Mancunians did, from the crunchy guitar tone to the swelling banks of strings building and falling behind almost every song.

Trying to ignore the one major flaw for a moment, All The Wars is full of pleasing melodies and intelligent songwriting. The combination of some seriously catchy hooks, biting riffs and an ability to imbue the music with lashings of emotion and atmosphere make for an easy and enjoyable listening experience. But ultimately, this is yet another record that will sit gathering dust amongst the myriad of copycat releases that so ironically plagues the progressive genre; a massive waste of what is quite clearly some real talent.
