Seth Lakeman - Live with the BBC Concert Orchestra

Earlier this year English folk troubadour Seth Lakeman appeared on stage at Plymouth Pavilions with the BBC Concert Orchestra. This five track live EP captures fragments from this concert encompassing tracks that span his solo career.

The songs lend themselves well to their orchestral setting. Lakeman’s gentle songs still hold centre stage but are rounded out by the string accompaniment, swelling to crescendos and pulling back as required. 'Blacksmith’s Prayer' and 'Changes' come across well, the latter especially has an added heft around Lakeman's more unorthodox fiddle playing. In terms of being an EP it does what it says on the tin, in that it provides a glimpse into his work but new listeners or those already in his stable may be left wanting more.
