Palma Violets - 180

Going from moments of real triumph to then plunge into WTF? territory, 180 from London band Palma Violets may leave you feeling sorely frustrated. Being a hotly tipped "next big thing" can be a heavy burden to bear for any band, and the PVs may be feeling it a tad too keenly, thus the rather uneveness of this debut.

Things start off fine with the 60s retro feel of 'Best Of Friends' with Sam Fryer and Chilli Jesson's wonderful screamy vocals, however 'Step Up For The Cool Cats' and the silly 'Rattlesnake Highway' let the side down considerably. This is an album where you may want the remote handy to skip the dull bits and get straight to the candy. 'Chicken Dippers' sounds like it belongs on a Tarantino soundtrack, and the rocking fun of 'Tom Tom Drum' will restore faith and reward your patience. Unfortunately 'Johnny Bagga Donuts' is almost as bad as the title would suggest and the lacklustre 'Three Stars' is just dull. Despite flashes of greatness, 180 feels like a band still trying to find its feet.

About Olivia Schaff
I have been writing for The Music Fix for over two years and if anything I am more of a music junkie than ever before. I am not happy unless I’m waiting in line for a gig. Be it a rock band or a folk band, you will always find me at the barrier. My home is Manchester and wherever my favourite band are playing.
