Living in Seattle, discovered by Turnstile (who also brought the likes of Girls and Swanton Bombs to the world) and making music entirely on his own at home, not much is known about the young Perfume Genius – aka one Mike Hadreas – except that he creates sparse, fractured ballads like no other, delicate cobwebs of love, loss and longing held together only by piano and Hadreas’ remarkable voice, a trembling, spectral croon which sometimes calls to mind Dean Wareham circa Galaxie 500 at his most bereft.
