Spider Mike King - The Blood River Sessions vol. 1
No, this isn't a long lost collection of songs by Bob Dylan but the debut EP from Manchester troubadour Spider Mike King. While not particularly original or groundbreaking, this collection has a heart-felt sincerity about them that can't help but impress. The arrangements are sparse, the production minimal, allowing the tunes to rise or fall on their own merit.
Opener 'Grapes Of Wrath' and 'Carry Me Home' has King doing his best Dylan Blood On The Tracks impression; the almost mimicking style is a bit distracting yet the sad mournful melody compliments the whiskey-soaked vocals. 'All Fade Away' challenges perceptions a bit, King laying off the Bobfather tribute and delivering something a little more individual.
