Biohazard - Reborn In Defiance

It has been a long time in coming, but at last the reunited original Biohazard line-up have delivered a brand spanking new album. Those expecting a direct continuation in Reborn In Defiance from where these four left off eighteen years ago are well wide of the mark; this is an older, wiser band now and that is hugely apparent right throughout. Gone is the raw angst of a disaffected youth hurled at you at a million miles an hour, replaced instead by a weighty riling against the injustice of the world delivered with a healthy dose of catchy riffing.

It is hard to imagine the Biohazard of yore delivering something quite like the radio-friendly 'Killing Me', and pulling it off so convincingly; similarly, the sing-along chorus of 'Waste Away' sits very nicely alongside the hip-hop tinged diatribes of each verse, a deft trick that shows how the band have both grown with their vast experiences and still remained true to their identity. There is a lack of pure unleashed aggression in Reborn In Defiance that will certainly disappoint many, but that shouldn't detract from the fact this is a rock solid, pissed off shouting match from some old pros.

About Dominic Hemy
The team's resident oddball (he takes offence to the term "village idiot", favouring "geek"), Dominic has a healthy love of the weird and wonderful end of the musical spectrum - and an intense dislike of copycats. Dabbles in psychedelic and folk musics for relaxing times, but prefers it loud, strange, and preferably with an average song length in the twenties.
