London's Tiggi Hawke is so new, her debut single isn't out yet. You can get a taster in the recent Tobtok remix of 'In The Wild' but we've yet to get our ears around the pure unadulterated original. Despite being hugely busy trying to launch her pop career, Tiggi was able to grace us with a world exclusive - her first ever interview!
Hi Tiggi! Would you like to introduce yourself to the TMF readership.
Aloha! Iím Tiggi Hawke, Iím a singer/songwriter in London based at Tileyard Studios!
Do you have an earliest musical memory? Was there a record or act that made you think 'I want to do this!í
Well my mum is my musical influence; she has such an amazing ear for music and played music to a very high level. She used to sing a lot when we were younger and helped judge my terrible Ďdance routinesí as I was growing up! A lot of my love for music is straight from her and I can definitely blame her for the rock music!!
One night I was doing a gig in London and I decided to sing one of my own songs and that was the turning point for me. It was like a light just turned on and any doubts I had just disappeared so I left uni and I moved straight back to London to work on my music.
If we were to look at your MP3 player, is there anything on there you'd rather we didn't see? Do you have your own stuff on there?
Youíd find a bit of everything! I trained classically so I still have that appreciation of more classical genres and then alongside that you have my favourite rock music (Guns Ní Roses, Def Leppard, The Darkness etc). If I hear something and I like it, then itís on my playlist - itís a simple as that! Plus I love getting recommendations from friends, that way you get to hear things that you might not have come across yourself. I do have a few of my own tracks on my phone but I donít tend to listen to them that often, I find it quite hard to listen to my own voice sometimes!
Is there any style of music you just don't get?
I think I can honestly say that there isnít! For me, thereís a time and place for genres. Sometimes I want to rock out and other times, I need Eminem to spur me on in the gym and then thereís everything in-between. That said, Iím sure thereís styles Iíve never even heard of, but thatís the beauty of it, isn't it? You gotta keep exploring!
Are there any artists you'd really like to collaborate with in the future?
I mean, Ellie Goulding and Sia are definitely on the list, however unrealistic that is! Iíve had the amazing opportunity to work with FEMME on my latest remix and I would love to work with her again in the future. Iím so lucky to have worked with some amazing people at Tileyard, Iím pretty superstitious though, sometimes I think I jinx these things just by saying them out loudÖ
What's next for Tiggi Hawke?
Iím mid-EP release right now but Iím writing for the next one as the campaign is going on which is so exciting. Thereís another remix or two coming your way along with the 4 original tracks on the EP and itís taking all my willpower not to share them all now!
What's the question we should have asked you today?
Letís save that for the second dateÖ! But seriously, thank you for your support, I canít wait to share more with you all!
You can follow Tiggi Hawke on Twitter and like her on Facebook - we recommend you do both!
