Indie Daze - The Forum, London

An unbelievable crowd response greeted Indie Daze headliners EMF, when they took to the stage for a triumphant set, celebrating the 25th anniversary of debut album Schubert Dip.

The group topped a seven band bill, with the Festival bringing a strong late 80's / 90's line up for it's third year, with the acts introduced by DJ Steve Lamacq.

Highlights included a recently reformed Gaye Bykers On Acid, with a set heralded as their final show (though they seem to have had seconds thoughts since the gig!), with 'Shoulders' the stand out track from their performance.

Pop Will Eat Itself also delivered a fantastic set, for the second year running at the event, with Bykers mainman Mary working overtime, as he shared vocal duties in the band with original member Graham Crabb.

PWEI's show was the most memorable of the day for me. Surely it's time for the band to top the bill? Both years I've seen them, the crowd have gone completely mental for tracks like 'Def Con One' 'Can You Dig It?' and 'Ich Bin Ein Auslander', with the energy in the room dropping considerably when the next band took the stage.

The Forum audience certainly lapped up the Poppies, but Carter USM's Jim Bob gave them a run for their money, with a Carter 'hits' set, delivered with just an acoustic guitar, leading to biggest singalong's of the day during outstanding renditions of 'Sheriff Fatman' and 'The Only Living Boy In New Cross'.

I really appreciated what I caught of EMF's set, especially opener 'Children'. However, I sadly had to leave before the airing of their biggest hit, top three single, and US Billboard number one - 'Unbelievable'.

You Tube shows me it was a fun rendition, with the band joined by Jim Bob and PWEI members. Hopefully I'll catch them again sometime, as what I did see was certainly enjoyable.

I'm curious to know who'll be topping the bill at Indie Daze next year anyway. I''d be happy with PWEI, though I'm holding out for a Senseless Things reunion!
