Canadian singer-songwriter Nick Ferrio offers catchy and sophisticated songs that examine the ferociousness of love. Taking a cue from Kurt Vile and Nick Lowe, Ferrio, bass player with The Burning Hell, has come into his own with his sophomore album 'Amongst the Coyotes and Birdsongs'. Featuring collaborations with Julie Doiron and members of Constantines, and the Weather Station, with 'Amongst the Coyotes and Birdsongs', Nick Ferrio is claiming his place as one of Canada's best kept secrets.

'Amongst The Coyotes And Birdsongs' came out in Canada through Headless Owl, and will be released in Europe on BB*ISLAND on 25 November.

Nick Ferrio is a Canadian songwriter working in country and folk music. Starting off musically as a punk rocker, since 2009, he has written and performed under his own name, releasing the album Introducing His Feelings (2012 Shuffling Feet Records), and the single Half the Time (2013 7th Fire Records), He has performed at concerts and festivals across Canada and Europe, including appearances at POP Montreal, Halifax Pop Explosion, CMW, a.m.m.

Besides his solo activities and various collaborations he’s also a fix member of The Burning Hell, performing and recording with them since 2008. Moreover he’s eventually organizing local cultural events and a folk festival in and around his hometown Peterborough, ON.

Nick Ferrio also shows lots of empathy for Indigenous view points, sharing in the nowadays struggles to overcome colonialism and racism. He’s supporting indigenous voices of his generation and performs with one of the renowned, Leanne ‚Betasamosake’ Simpson, contributing to her albums Islands of Decolonial Love (2013 ARP Books) and F(l)ight (2016 RPM) most recently.

While his first solo album was introduced under the name Nick Ferrio & His Feelings, he left off the Feelings now, releasing just under his name. But the feelings are all there, it’s still in his music. His sophomore album Amongst the Coyotes and Birdsongs examines the ferociousness of love. It is a subtle, understated and confident collection of songs, an album in the traditional sense, meant to be listened to uninterrupted from start to finish.

Recorded partially in Sackville, NB and partially in Toronto, ON with producer Gavin Gardiner (The Wooden Sky), the album features collaborations with Julie Doiron, Tamara Lindeman (The Weather Station), Steve Lambke (Constantines), Ian Kehoe (Marine Dreams) and Evening Hymns. The main recordings took place in an historic art deco theatre, the Vogue, still in function. They’d record by day, before the movie crowd turned up. "We'd have to get it done before the popcorn," Ferrio says. "It's this big, beautiful space - it gave us an amazing sound.“ Despite the long list of collaborators Ferrio is unquestionably in command here.
