Download Festival 2017 adds more than 20 bands

What better present for the festive season than the gift that keeps on giving, in a further huge line up announcement of the annual Download Festival held at Castle Donnington.

Alongside headliners System Of A Down , Biffy Clyro and Aerosmith are rock juggernaut's Alter Bridge fresh off a recent UK arena tour and recent release of new album The Last Hero . The latest ferocious live act to come from Australia are rocker's Airbourne who will deliver no frills rock n' roll with their well know intensity and energy.

If you are a fan, you are a died in the wool fan of Opeth , treasured names in the progressive metal scene, alongside rock stompers Clutch and Ministry . Fellow prog metal legends Mastodon return to Donnington why they are at the top of the tree in their respective genre. Finishing up this day will be kings of the circle pit DevilDriver .

Following on from the prog theme Coheed and Cambria return to wield their narrative fuelled sensibilities alongside super group The Dead Daisies made up of former members of Thin Lizzy , Whitesnake and Motley Crue . Back,nearly literally in the case of front man Derek Whibley, from the dead come Sum 41 fresh off the back of a comeback album alongside skate punk pioneers Good Charlotte .

Debutants Sleeping With Sirens headline the recently renamed 'Avalanche Stage' above the likes Four Year Strong and Knuckle Puck . Alt-rock influences come from WAKRAT among them Rage Against The Machine bass player Tim Commerford. UK cult band Basement are included on the line up also.

Other bands across the weekend include The One Hundred, Crown The Empire, Greywind, Astroid Boys, Exodus, Lost Society, God Damn and Red Fang .
