Griff Lynch, former frontman of Welsh psych-pop band Yr Ods, is forging his own way into the world with the imminent release of his second single. 'Don't Count On Me' follows 'Hir Oes Dy Wen' into the world and continues the recent resurgence in critically appreciated Welsh music. We ask Griff to put together a playlist of tracks he appreciates, and he did. So here it is.
Hippies Vs Ghosts - 'Wazo'
Brilliant instrumental rock n roll. If you ever get a chance to see them live you should.
Dau Cefn - 'Bish Bash Bosh'
They've been around making Welsh hip hop / electronic music for a while. Also VERY active. There's a new tune on their Soundcloud every day. This is one of my favourites.
Conor Oberst - 'Napalm'
I've always loved Bright Eyes. Conor's Lyrics are always the best, so it's brilliant that he's releasing new stuff. We need more Coner Obersts to get us through the Trump era.
Arcade Fire - 'I Give You Power'
They’ve gradually changed their sound since the first album, and I love how they can come out with something completely unrecognisable and fresh.
Carcharorion - 'Cawsom Wlad'
Welsh Electronic House Music. Featuring Ivonia, the first Welsh language computerized voice. Their EP is really cool as well.
The Shivers - 'I could care less'
When I listen to this song I can cheat myself in to thinking I live in Brooklyn. Really DIY sounding, but his songs are beautiful.
Weezer - 'Wind in our Sail'
I've got a massive soft spot for this band. Haters gonna hate, but their new album is full of pop hits. Their best album since The Green Album IMO.
Goat - 'Union of Sun and Moon'
Their music really hits a chord with me. There's something about Swedish psych rock that sets it apart from the rest of the world. Maybe it's the sound of the language. If you like Goat you should check Dungen out, and also 70s Psych legend Bo Hanson.
Frank Ocean - 'Ivy'
The album I listen to most often last year probably. The guitars on this one is low key. And confirms that Chours and Delay are a top guitar effect combo.
